Welding of dissimilar materials
It’s not just glass to glass but glass to metal, plastic to metal, plastic to ceramics and more. How is is possible to weld materials which have melting points 100s or 1000s of degrees difference? The laser pulses are simply so intense that they break down materials to their elements and the mixture cooling down will create a mixture of the two at the boundary. There is no other method which can weld brittle and dissimilar materials to the extent possible with ultrafast lasers.
PulseBrick comes especially handy in the extremely cost sensitive plastic welding industry where the current alternatives had no chance of setting a foot yet.
