Trimming of resistors

A thin film can be selectively removed, leaving only a tiny bridge behind between two electrodes. The coating can be removed from the back side of the substrate (laser assisted lift-off) and deposited on something else (laser assisted forward transfer). However, the part remaining on the substrate can form a capacitor or a resistor. The number of application possibilities is very high. All this enabled by the minimal to none heat affected zone when using ultrashort pulse lasers.

Green and UV laser options are popular in applications requiring very small spot sizes.
