Specialty light sources

If ultrashort pulse lasers are not special enough for your application, they can be used to generate secondary sources of light. X-rays are a typical laser safety topic with these lasers; THz light can be generated using 001 orientation ZnTe crystals; by coupling the pulses into a nonlinear medium supercontinuums covering 1000s of nanometres spectral range can be generated.

Supercontinuum lasers are used in spectroscopy but also in optical coherence tomography (OCT). OCT can make extremely high resolution and in depth images of samples. Precision metrology, medical applications are typical use cases.
