Direct writing of waveguides
Photonic integrated circuits are mostly made of waveguides. As light based computing and data storage becomes the cornerstone of efficiency improvement, prototyping of these devices could rely on ultrashort pulse lasers instead of expensive lithographic methods.
Modular Photonics has the glass to fabricate a low loss waveguide and the technology which uses ultrashort pulse lasers. The secret is usually staying just below the damage threshold of the material. For this application the oscillator module of PulseBrick, CoreBrick would be sufficient.
